The Center for a Stateless Society has named Nathan Goodman its first Lysander Spooner Research Scholar in Abolitionist Studies.
Goodman, a C4SS Senior Fellow, is a writer and activist living in Salt Lake City, Utah. He has been involved in LGBT, feminist, anti-war, and prisoner solidarity organizing. Goodman has only been with C4SS for little over a year and in that time has become one of our most versatile and challenging writers. Goodman has published 18 commentary op-eds with C4SS, many of which have been republished with mainstream periodicals and sites like Counterpunch, South Carolina Chronicle and Legal Pro News. Goodman has also written two features, one review and participated in multiple media appearances. He is currently working on a number of scholarly studies for C4SS and has been translated into three languages.
This position honors the versatile, relentless and rebellious abolitionist Lysander Spooner whose life and work exemplifies total commitment to not just slavery’s containment and retreat from social life, but its pursuit and annihilation. A commitment that we feel is shared by Goodman through his tireless work for prison abolition and LGBT liberation.
We look forward to seeing where Goodman’s research and writing take Abolitionist Studies.
