Dear C4SS supporters,

What a week, huh? This Wikileaks thing is bringing the label “anarchist” to the forefront in a big way — usually pre-pended by “cyber,” but it’s better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick, anyway.

We haven’t yet established ourselves as a prominent enough presence to fully exploit the situation, but we got our licks in, mirroring the censored Wikileaks site and such. I suspect that more hits are coming, and we’ll do our best to support the good guys and get the word out.

On the straight “mainstream media submissions” side of things, we may have reached more people this week than ever before. Here are our “pickups,” links and mentions for the week:

– David D’Amato’s “Shielding Global Statism” ran in the London, Ontario Free Press on December 2nd (it didn’t show up in search engines until after last week’s update).

– The Canadian published two of David’s pieces this week — “The Empire Drones On” (as “Wikileaks: U.S. foreign policy ravages the lives of innocents”) on December 3rd and “Corporate Welfare Disguised as Free Trade” on the 7th.

– “Corporate Welfare Disguised as Free Trade” was also linked by USA Today on the 5th, ran in the Woodstock, Ontario Sentinel Review on the 8th, and appeared in the Seoul (Republic of Korea) JoonAng Ilbo this morning.

That last deserves a pause and a second paragraph. JoonAng Ilbo is one of the largest newspapers in the world. Its circulation (2.2 million) is roughly that of the New York Times, Washington Post and Los Angeles Times COMBINED, and in a country with roughly 1/6th the population of the US to boot. The article ran as a letter to the editor and omitted C4SS in the byline, but it was a solid, relevant message and it reached a lot of people. Way to go, David!

– My own piece, “Cyber World War One,” appeared in yesterday’s edition of the St. Joseph, Missouri Telegraph.

– The Florence, South Carolina News Journal picked up Ross Kenyon’s “Hanker for a Hunk of Corporatism?”

– Kevin Carson’s “The Anti-TSA Backlash: It Ain’t Just a Right-Wing Thing,” was cited in LexisNexus, via Congressional Quarterly (!!!) via Infoshop News.

So, seven pickups in three countries, with total circulation in the 2.4 million range, plus one major media link and one citation. We’re nowhere near where I want us to be, but we’re going places.

This week, I’ve submitted 8,131 op-eds to 2,664 newspapers in North America, Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Australia, the Caribbean and Latin America. That’s down a little from last week, but not to worry — we’re working on our scheduling and geographical balance (and continuing to add newspapers!) so that we can maximize submissions and impact, and I suspect it’s going to be up and down for awhile yet before stabilizing somewhere north of 10,000 submissions per week.
