Dear C4SS Supporters,

I’m pretty sure this is a record week for C4SS commentary submissions to newspapers: 11,037 op-eds sent to 2,536 publications on four continents.

Here’s what I’ve found so far on how those submissions are doing:

• On October 25th, the Winchester, Tennessee Herald-Chronicle published Darian Worden’s “Burning the Wrong Effigy in Mexico.”
• On October 27th, the Deming, New Mexico Headlight published Kevin Carson’s “Michael Moore Almost Gets It Right.”
• On October 28th, the St. Joseph, Missouri Telegraph published Kevin’s “The ‘Economic Freedom Index’ Isn’t.”
• The Times of India — the world’s 8th largest newspaper by circulation — blurbed and linked two of David D’Amato’s C4SS commentaries from its web site (which Alexa says ranks 64th in the world for traffic).
• While it didn’t happen through C4SS proper, or through me as coordinator, I’m going to brag on Kevin Carson some more anyway: His “The Distorting Effects of Transportation Subsidies” appears in the November issue of the Foundation for Economic Education’s The Freeman: Ideas on Liberty. Check it out!

Since about half of this week’s submissions went out in the last 50 hours or so, I suspect (and hope!) that we’ll see a bump in “pickups” for next week’s update.

In other news, the “Op-Ed Boot Camp” activity we held earlier this month went well enough (only two participants, but they seemed to enjoy it and it resulted in at least one finished op-ed being submitted to a major newspaper) that we’re offering another go-round in November. It’s free, it’s no-pressure (despite the “Boot Camp” title), and if you’re interested in seeing your name in print as the author of a published op-ed or letter to the editor, I think you’ll find it beneficial.
