Dear C4SS supporters,

This week, I sent 7,155 discrete C4SS op-ed submissions to newspapers. How many papers? Usually I can tell you. This week, due to human error (“Ctrl-X plus distracted plus spaz,” resulting in erasure of part of my log), I can’t. I know we reached at least 1,904 separate publications (that’s the current total number of US newspapers on my list), and I think some pieces also went out to Canada, Australia, India, etc.

As far as how well those submissions did, I’ve found only two incidents to report:

I missed a “media pickup” last week, and only learned about it because it resulted in a phone call to the Center from an interested reader: Alexandria, Louisiana’s Town Talk, ran Anna Morgenstern’s “Apology for Experiments Not Accepted” on October 14th.

The second incident is not, strictly speaking, a “pickup,” but it’s still worthwhile. Frank Keegan, national editor for The Franklin Center for Government and Public Integrity, watchdog.org and statehousenewsonline.com, cited Brad Spangler’s “Public Pension Crisis: Free Workers Syndicates The Way Forward” in an article on watchdog.org (“Proposals to solve public pension crisis show magnitude of catastrophe”) yesterday.

Granted, Keegan characterized Spangler’s proposal as “the wildest idea” on the subject, but if you were around in the late 70s and early 80s, you probably remember the more “moderate” libertarian proposals of an organization I won’t name, but whose initials are the Cato Institute, being talked about the same way. I’m just sayin’ …

As the Center’s media coordinator, I’m always disappointed not to be able to report dozens of “media pickups” to you each week. It’s a long, uphill road we’re grinding up here … but we are making headway.
