Dear C4SS Supporters,
I apologize for running a little late with this “media coordinator update.” I spent the early part of last week with my head down and my nose to the grindstone, and then the last couple of days attending to various family and household matters, and time just sort of got away from me.
The bad news: I’m finding that it’s harder to accurately track C4SS media penetration than I had expected it to be.
Example, by way of good news: A C4SS commentary, Darian Worden’s “Cities, Honor Gun Ruling,” appeared in one of the top 100 US newspapers by circulation — the Fort Myers, Florida News-Press — on June 28th, but that mention didn’t get captured on Google News until this week.
In addition to being a feather in the Center’s cap, that’s a big personal pick-me-up for me. As you noticed, I spent a couple of weeks there agonizing over my seeming inability to get placement for our material, and it turns out that nearly 80,000 readers had received a C4SS commentary on their doorstep during that timeframe!
We’re now consistently returning more than 20 Google News index mentions at any given time, returning first-page search result on the word “anarchism” and page two results on “anarchist.” A cable TV show is still dominating results for “anarchy,” but I predict that within a month we’ll dominate front-page results on all three terms.
The fruit is not in the basket yet, but I’m up on the ladder and reaching for it — in discussions with the host of a prominent talk radio host in a major metropolitan area to get a C4SS mouth on his show. In reply to my pitch, he had some specific questions. I think that appearance is going to happen, and soon.
The new, improved US newspaper list is now at 840 publications (I’m working on states starting with the letter “M”), and that’s after several mailings which have allowed me to cull bad addresses. The overall newspaper list has passed 1200 contacts.
Out in the libertarian blogosphere last week, someone characterized my updates as “long, breathless and effusive.” He’s probably right, so I’m going to cut this one off now. I’ll be back next week with more, and hopefully even better, news.
Yours in liberty,
Tom Knapp
