El puño es una de las obras seminales de Kevin Carson y una referencia fundamental del “anticapitalismo de libre mercado”. Expone de manera suscinta varios temas abordados por Kevin en mayor profundiad en su “Estudios de economía política mutualista”. Principalmente, el ensayo hace un análisis histórico de la evolución del capitalismo como una serie de “revoluciones impuestas desde arriba” por una clase dominante u otra apoyada por el poder coercitivo del estado en detrimento de la clase trabajadora. Luego analiza los cinco principales obstáculos institucionales a la libertad económica impuestos por el estado en un sistema capitalista: la hegemonía ideológica, el monopolio del dinero, las patentes, los subsidios a la infrastructura y el “keynesianismo militarista”.

Esperamos que lo disfrutes. Parece mentira que ya hayan pasado 12 años desde que Kevin publicó el puño de hierro. Desde entonces nuestro movimiento ha evolucionado enormemente.

Spanish Media Coordinator Report, May 2014

This month I decided to focus all my efforts on finishing the translation of Kevin Caron’s “The Iron Fist Behind the Invisible Hand“. And the efforts paid off: I finished the translation yesterday!

Iron Fist is one of Kevin’s seminal works and an obligatory reference within the free-market anti-capitalist movement. It addresses in succinct form many of the issues that Kevin addresses in more depth in his Studies in Mutualist Political Economy. In particular, the essay presents a historical analysis of how capitalism evolved as a succession of “revolutions imposed from above” by a succession of State-sponsored dominant classes to the detriment of the working class. And then it folows with an analysis of the five key institutional obstacles engineered by the State for supressing economic liberty in a capitalist system: Ideological hegemony, the money monopoly, patents, infrastructure subsidies, and “military keynesianism”.

We hope you enjoy it! It is unbelievable that 12 years have passed since Kevin wrote Iron Fist. Since then, our movement has evolved greatly, and C4SS is part of that evolution.

En abril detecté cinco reproducciones de nuestros artículos, cuatro publicadas por Before It’s News, una publicada por el blog del periódico anarquista venezolano El Libertario, y otra por el blog mexicano de noticias alternativas Pijama Surf. Al final publicaron “Si estás leyendo este artículo, probablemente seas un terrorista” de Kevin Carson, en lugar de “Brasil Arderá de Nuevo” de Erick Vasconcelos, como les dije en mi último informe.

En mi último informe también les comenté que la versión colombiana de la revista Vice quería publicar “Bitcoin Debe Autorregularse, el Estado Solo Puede Destruirlo”, de Christiaan Elderhorst, lo cual al final lamentablemente no sucedió. Pero sigo en comunicación con ellos, por lo que espero ver nuestro material publicado en esa revista en el futuro próximo.

También les dije en mi último informe que América Economía, una prominente revista argentina de negocios leída en toda América Latina, estaba interesada en publicar nuestros artículos de opinión. Todavía estamos coordinando algunos detalles –como tomar fotos de más alta resolución a nuestros colaboradores– pero también espero ver pronto nuestros artículos publicados en esa revista.

Por último, pero no menos importante, la traducción del clásico El puño de hierro detrás de la mano invisible de Kevin Carson está prácticamente listo, por lo que podrán disfrutar de él con toda seguridad en mayo.

Spanish Media Coordinator Update, April 2014

In April I detected five reproduction of our articles, four by Before It’s News, one by the blog of Venezuela’s anarchist newspaper El Libertario, and one by Pijama Surf, a very popular alternative news blog from Mexico. In the end, they ran Kevin Carson’s “If You’re Reading This Article, You’re Probably A Terrorist,” instead of Erick Vasconcelo’s “Brasil is Going to Burn, Again,” as I told you in my last update.

In that update, I also mentioned that the Colombian version of Vice Magazine was interested in running “Bitcoin Must Self-Regulate — The State Can Only Destroy,“ by Christian Elderhorst. Well, unfortunately that didn’t happen, but we are still talking and hopefully we will see C4SS material there in the future.

I also told you in my latest update that América Economía, a quite prominent Argentinean business magazine with readers accross Latin America was interested in publishing our op-eds. We are still working out some details — like taking higher resolution pictures of our contributors – but I also hope to see our op-eds published there soon.

Last but not least, I am almost done with the translation of Kevin Caron’s classic “The Iron Fist Behind the Invisible Hand.” Stay tuned for its publication in May!

En marzo también empecé por fin a trabajar en la traducción de The Iron Fist Behnid the Invisible Hand de Kevin Carson, por lo que espero poder terminarla durante las próximas dos semanas.

Así que se seguimos bajando duro para dar a conocer al centro en el mundo de habla hispana. Aunque España y México se encuentran entre los veinte países que más tráfico generan a nuestro sitio web, el potencial de crecimiento es enorme.

Spanish Media Coordinator Update, March 2014

In March we achieved a grand total of four Spanish-lang pickups, which is nothing to go crazy about, but bear in mind my media contacts list is still very short–72 email addresses only.

I am following a strategy of quality over quantity to build the list, so despite the few pickups, this month I received enthusiastic responses of several prominent media expressing their interest in publishing several of our articles within the next couple of weeks:

• The Managing Editor of the Colombian edition of Vice magazine, told me they were going to publish the translation of Christiaan Elderhorst’s “Bitcoin Must Self-Regulate — The State Can Only Destroy“.
• The publisher of Pijama Surf, a quite big alternative news Mexican blog, said he was going to run the translation of Erick Vasconcelos’ “Brasil is Going to Burn, Again.”
• The Sub-Director for Digital Media of América Economía, a very well established Argentinean business magazine that is read across Latin America, wrote me an email saying he liked our material and would like to publish our op-eds regularly.

In March I also started working on the translation of Kevin Carson’s “The Iron Fist Behind the Invisible Hand,” so hopefully I’ll have it ready within the next two weeks.

So we are working hard to make C4SS well known in the Spanish speaking world. Although Spain and Mexico are among the top 20 traffic-generating countries for our site, the potential for growth is still enormous.

Estamos publicando um texto por dia no site e, consequentemente, na página do Facebook do Centro. Em duas semanas já conseguimos mais de 100 curtidas e melhora substancial no alcance dos artigos. O Partido Libertários, que recentemente mudou seu foco e funciona como instituto, contando um website muito bem visitado e fanpage com quase 50.000 curtidas, também deve republicar nosso conteúdo com consistência, além de divulgá-lo.

O primeiro artigo veiculado desde que eu assumi o compromisso de publicar diariamente foi o que teve maior repercussão, falando sobre a Venezuela e as políticas do chavismo. O artigo foi o primeiro a ser republicado também, pelo site Epoch Times.

Assuntos de interesse local naturalmente estimulam mais as discussões. Um artigo próprio meu que falava da esquerda latino-americana e de suas reações à violência do estado venezuelano repercutiu bastante e deve ser republicado no coletivo de escritores libertários com viés de esquerda, o Mercado Popular. O Mercado Popular, inclusive, conta com mais de 3.000 curtidas no Facebook e permite que eu reposte quaisquer conteúdos do C4SS, o que eu tenho feito. Além disso, meu artigo original deverá ser publicado até o final desta semana.

Comecei recentemente a compilar uma lista de jornais e outros veículos de mídia para os quais enviarei nossos artigos e, já em março, devo ter uma lista consolidada.

Os avanços são bastante interessantes e, também no mês que vem, já devo ter completado a tradução de The Iron Fist Behind the Invisible Hand, de Kevin Carson, o que deve catapultar ainda mais nossa audiência.

Portuguese Media Coordinator Update: February 2014

I actually started my work as Media Coordinator for C4SS only in the second half of February. However, I feel we already have some fairly exciting results.

We’ve been publishing an article every day on the website and on the Portuguese Facebook fanpage, and the reach has gotten progressively better. In two weeks we have over 100 “likes”. The Brazilian Libertarian Party — which has recently abandoned its hopes of being formalized as a political party and works more as organizer for activism, with a very well visited website and a fanpage with almost 50,000 likes — should be republishing and spreading our content consistently.

The first article we published since I took the responsibility of getting a piece out there every day was also the most talked about. It was Alan Furth’s take on Venezuela and the policies of Chavismo. It was also the first to be republished, by Epoch Times.

Local subjects are naturally more engaging. An article of my own discussing the Latin American left and its reactions to the Venezuelan state violence had good repercussion and should be republished in a collective of left-leaning libertarians I’m a part of, Mercado Popular. Mercado Popular, by the way, has over 3,000 likes on Facebook and allows me to link to whatever articles we put out on their fanpage. My first article should be republished by the end of this week.

I have also started compiling a list of newspapers and other media outlets to which I should be sending our content. In march I should have a consolidated list.

Advances are pretty significant and, also next month, I should have fully translated Kevin Carson’s The Iron Fist Behind the Invisible Hand, which should boost our audience even more.
