One argument I read was that civil liberties wouldn't be threatened if the terrorists turned out to be white and American than if they turned out to be Muslim and foreign. Considering the response to Sandy Hook, Aurora, etc. I doubt it.

On the other hand, the danger to innocents living the home country of the terrorists if they had turned out to be from a Muslim region was and is very real.
