It is surprising how many people, in their defense of property rights, refuse to define property. For such people, which is most of us, any formal ownership is "property," no matter how that ownership is obtained or maintained. Is it too obvious to point out that without being able to say what property is that you cannot distinguish property rights from property wrongs.

The issue of copyright was at the center of a series of particularly heated — and spiteful — arguments between my father and I during my teens. So occasionally I wonder if maybe my abhorrence to copyright is just lingering bitterness. Then I look at the arguments *for* copyright and want to claw my face off from the stupidity and borderline misanthropy.

They are still attacking - ACTA and the recent fetish for '3 strikes' laws are the latest attempts (and the most blatant examples of the corporate state for a while).

The UK is also being plagued by a law firm sending threatening letters to people accusing them of copyright infringement and demanding ludicrous compensation for their clients (up to 60% of people panic and pay up whether they did it or not) (this must be a nice earner for the lawyers by the way - they will charge for every form letter the send, get a cut of the payments and a cut of anything they get from the few default judgements they get (they only go to court if you ignore everything and are likely to ignore the summons) - they don't even need to bother reading the responses, just send out more letters).

Uh, I think Ghandi's saying was "... then WE win".
